NMK Undergraduate and Graduate Summer Camp

15/07/2024-22/09/2024

Date:

Our 2024 Undergraduate and Graduate Summer Camp will take place at the Nesin Mathematics Village between the dates of July 15 and September 22, 2024. You will find the current state of the program below, subject to modifications.

Aim:

To make good use of the summer vacations of mathematics students, to help them make up for missing parts in their basic knowledge, to provide knowledge about certain areas which are not covered in the ordinary university curriculum due to time restrictions, to provide an environment where they can meet and socialize with mathematicians from Turkey and around the world, and finally to facilitate scientific collaboration.

Prerequisition:

Any student registered in a mathematics department may register for a suitable portion of the summer camp. Exceptions can be made for students from other departments if the programs are not filled.

Price:

For the tents the fee is 6.700 TL/week, and for dormitories 8.450 TL/week. This covers four meals a day, accommodation, lessons, and all kinds of basic needs that the Village offer. These fees are valid until the end of March. Due to economic reasons, there is a possibility of price changes after March.

Application:

You will receive a confirmation via e-mail to notify that your application has indeed been received. If you do not receive such an e-mail within two days, then something has gone wrong, so we kindly ask you contact us directly ( cerenaydin@nesinkoyleri.org ). The dates between which you wish to participate and the two courses you guarantee you will follow are obligatory fields of the application form. Once your application has been accepted you must register; only the application is not sufficient. Please specify on the form the amount of monetary support you require, if any. There is plenty of space in the Village to pitch tents. As we have a restricted amount of tents, we kindly ask you to bring your own tent if you own one. Excepting physical reasons, participants are expected to help with Village chores such as laundry, dishwashing, cleaning, gardening, and cooking. We aim to instill a feeling of family and brotherhood in the village – no one will be asked to do more than their capacity allows.

Application form:

Program:

Participation must last an integer number of weeks (1, 2, 3 weeks etc.) A week starts on a Monday at 08:00 am and ends on the following Saturday at 20:00. Generally one is expected to arrive a day before the start date and leave on the end date (both Sundays). On Sunday each week, students register on two courses that they guarantee they will attend (see application form). Students may choose to attend courses they are not registered on, on top of these two.

There are classes 6 days a week. Wednesdays are holidays, and usually day trips are organised (to Efes, boat trips, to the National Park nearby or to the beach).

Each lecture lasts approximately 2 hours. Occasionally they may last 1.5 hours when the program is too full. There are usually at least 8 hours of lectures per day. Several lectures may take place simultaneously. Participants may give night seminars on a subject they are familiar with, and in fact are encouraged to do so, time permitting. Most courses are in English. The language of the course is specified in the course list (see the L column). X means that the language may be English in case there is a non-Turkish speaker among the audience.
