Abstract: In this mini course I will introduce some modern mathematical techniques applied for investigation and design of polymeric fluid film coverings and microfluidic devices. These include formal asymptotic matching methods, calculus of variations, analysis of parabolic PDEs and numerical ones. My presentation will be based on few basic and illustrative examples from microfluidics where combinations of these methods can be effectively applied. If time permits I will also provide an outlook to the related problems in mathematical biology.
