Title of the course: Introduction to Reverse Mathematics
Instructor: Prof. Roman Kossak
Institution: City University of New York
Dates: 16-22 September 2024
Prerequisites: One semester of calculus
Level: Beginning undergraduate
Abstract: Reverse Mathematics was developed by Harvey Friedman and Stephen Simpson to classify theorems of analysis, algebra, and other branches of mathematics with respect to the strength of the assumptions about infinite sets that are used to prove them. I will introduce some background in mathematical logic, combinatorics, and computability theory that are necessary to outline the Friedman-Simpson program and I will give examples and applications.
