General Info:
Short Film Lab is a 7-day filmmaking camp focused on visual storytelling and hands-on production. This edition is for beginner and intermediate participants. It is built around role-based collaboration. Participants apply for specific roles, and the camp produces two short films from first idea to final screening.
The camp mixes structured lessons with practical work. Participants learn about directing, cinematography, editing, sound, acting, and storytelling while working in two crews. The structure is focused and realistic.
No prior professional experience is required. Participants are expected to be motivated, curious, and ready to take part in every stage. Acting is a core role, and participants interested in acting are encouraged to apply.
A short online meeting will be held before the camp to introduce the roles, answer questions, and help participants prepare. November weather will be taken into account when planning locations and the daily schedule. Nesin Sanat Köyü has wood stoves and chimneys, and indoor spaces will be used when needed.
Aim:
Everyone has something to learn and something to share. A participant may be comfortable with a camera but new to editing, or interested in acting but new to a film set. The camp is an opportunity to learn by participating and to fill in each other’s gaps.
Roles are assigned by matching each participant’s experience and interests to what the two crews need. Priority is given to the role applied for, based on relevant experience. Applicants should describe what they have done before. If open to other roles, they should indicate this. Directing is limited to two slots, one per crew. This gives each participant a clear responsibility and helps the production run smoothly.
Short Film Lab guides participants through the full filmmaking workflow: idea development, scriptwriting, visual planning, production, post-production, and screening. The camp aims to strengthen visual thinking, build creative collaboration, support screen performance, and provide practical experience in turning ideas into finished films. Learning happens through practice, discussion, and reflection.
Prerequisition:
English conversational level is helpful for this camp.
Target group:
Beginner and intermediate participants, 18 and above, with exceptions for promising younger applicants. Participants interested in acting are encouraged to apply.
Price:
The camp fee includes four meals a day, accommodation, classes, and all basic necessities. The price is 18.500 TL for dormitories.

Applications will be reviewed in batches. Your application outcome will be communicated via email within approximately 10 days. All payment and registration procedures will take place after your application has been accepted.
Program:
Day 1: Idea Formation & Crew Assembly
- 9:00–10:30: Meet and greet. Camp overview. Role expectations. Theme introduction: autumn.
- 10:45–13:00: Idea generation from the autumn theme. Participants pitch and discuss initial directions.
- 13:00–14:00: Lunch Break
- 14:00–16:00: Crew formation. Coordinators assign roles and crews. Each crew selects one concept to develop.
- 16:15–19:00: Story outline, characters, setting, conflict, and visual potential. End with a daily production meeting.
Day 2: Script & Visual Plan
- 9:00–10:30: Story structure, character, arc, and scene construction.
- 10:45–13:00: Scriptwriting workshop and table read.
- 13:00–14:00: Lunch Break
- 14:00–16:00: Visual planning: shot list, moodboard, framing, camera and lens basics.
- 16:15–19:00: Acting rehearsal, blocking, and camera tests.
Day 3: Pre-Production & Rehearsal
- 9:00–10:30: Finalise scripts with feedback.
- 10:45–13:00: Location scouting, shooting schedule, final shot list, and storyboard.
- 13:00–14:00: Lunch Break
- 14:00–16:00: Acting, blocking, and rehearsal workshop.
- 16:15–19:00: Camera and lighting tests. Final crew prep. Confirm call sheets.
Day 4: Production Day 1
- 9:00–13:00: Full shooting block.

- 14:00–19:00: Full shooting block.
Day 5: Production Day 2
- 9:00–13:00: Full shooting block.

- 14:00–19:00: Full shooting block and pickups as needed.
Day 6: Post-Production
- 9:00–11:00: Introduction to editing and basic sound design.
- 11:15–13:00: Live editing workshop.
- 13:00–14:00: Lunch Break
- 14:00–19:00: Editing rough cuts. Additional pickups only if absolutely necessary.
Day 7: Refinement & Screening
- 9:00–13:00: Finalising rough cuts, feedback, and revisions.
- 13:00–14:00: Lunch Break
- 14:00–16:30: Basic colour correction, sound polish, and exports.
- 16:45–19:00: Screening of the two short films, feedback, and closing.
Outcome
By the end of the camp, participants will have completed two short films and screened them together. The role-based structure gives each person a clear responsibility, limits directing slots, encourages acting, and creates a focused, supportive production experience.
