An introduction to control theory

27 July - 9 August 2026

Title of the course: An introduction to control theory
Instructor: Dr. Guillaume Garnier
Institution: Sorbonne University
Dates: 27 July – 9 August 2026
Prerequisites: Linear algebra
Level: Undergraduate
Abstract: This course provides an introductory overview of control theory, with an emphasis on mathematical foundations and conceptual understanding. Control theory studies how to influence the behavior of dynamical systems through external inputs, with applications ranging from engineering and physics to biology and economics. Starting from linear algebra and basic system modeling, the course introduces continuous-time and discrete-time linear systems, notions of stability, controllability, and observability.
