Title of the course: Topology and Descriptive Set Theory of Polish Spaces
Instructor: Prof. Roman Kossak
Institution: The Graduate Center of the City University of New York
Dates: 15-21 September 2025
Prerequisites: An introductory course in topology would be helpful, but is not required. I will keep the lectures at a level suitable for beginners.
Level: Graduate, advanced undergraduate
Abstract: A Polish space is a completely metrizable, complete space containing a countable dense set of points. Examples are the real line, Cantor space, Baire space, and many other classical spaces in topology and analysis. I will give an introduction to the theory of Polish spaces and their Borel subsets, culminating in the Baire category theorem and its applications.
