Abstract: This course is intended to be an invitation to some areas in mathematics which play an important role in areas of mathematical sciences that are based on systems of multivariate polynomial equations. Aside from algebraic geometry which is the heart as the mathematical base to the areas, you will be invited to areas such as combinatorics, algebraic topology, commutative algebra, convex and discrete geometry, tensors and multilinear algebra, number theory, representation theory, and symbolic and numerical computation.
Computation is the main keyword for this course. Apart from computations which will be done by hand, there will be demonstrations of the computations via mathematical software, e.g. Macaulay 2, SageMath.
