Title of the course: Applied Linear Algebra
Instructor: Dr. Kerem Altun
Institution: Işık Ü.
Dates: 29 July – 4 August 2019
Prerequisites: Freshman level course in linear algebra is recommended but not absolutely necessary.
Level: Advanced undergraduate, beginning undergraduate
Abstract: We will start with vector spaces and fundamentals, then state and prove the orthogonality principle and its application to solutions of inconsistent system of linear equations Ax=b. We will discuss applications of this concept in many different areas of engineering and computer science, including machine learning, optimal estimation, statistical signal processing, image processing, and also Fourier series and Fourier transforms if time permits. We will also discuss the eigenvalue problem, the singular value decomposition and related applications in engineering and computer science.
