The aim of this school is to study the theory of multiple zeta-functions. The theory of multiple zeta-functions has a long, rich history, from the 18th century, but the modern developments began in around 1990. The most fundamental multiple zeta-functions are of the Euler-Zagier type, and the special values of them (called MZVs) have close connections with various fields of mathematics (arithmetic geometry, knot theory, KZ-equations) and mathematical physics.
Therefore the theory of Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-functions has been studied quite extensively in all over the world. Recently several Turkish mathematicians also have started the investigations on the theory of multiple zeta-functions. The organizers believe that now it is quite appropriate to arrange the school for the purpose of studying this fascinating research area. We expect that many young researchers and students in Turkey and neighboring countries will have great benefit from the school.
We invite specialists from France, Germany and Japan. These are leading countries in the research of multiple zeta-functions. Each of invited lecturers will give a course of lectures, on algebraic, arithmetic, and analytic parts of the theory. The contents will not be restricted to the case of Euler-Zagier type. Since the theory of multiple zeta-functions has now been more and more extended, the lecturers will try to describe the present stage of the whole art, including the discussion of many other type of multiple zeta-functions such as their p-adic versions.
Additionally, we will arrange the session of short communications of young participants. For the mathematicians in Turkey and surrounding countries, this school will give a nice occasion of discussing various problems in mathematics with foreign specialists.
